Setting Up Pastures

Pastures are the physical locations on your property where you manage livestock. Setting up your pastures is one of the first steps in organizing your ranch.

What is a Pasture?

In FarmFlo, a pasture represents a defined area of land where animals can graze or be housed. This could be:

  • A fenced grazing area
  • A paddock or corral
  • A barn or shelter
  • A holding pen
  • Any other designated area

Creating a Pasture

  1. Navigate to the Pastures section from the sidebar
  2. Click the Add Pasture button
  3. Enter a name for your pasture (e.g., "North Field", "Barn 1")
  4. Add an optional description
  5. Set the capacity if you want to track how many animals it can hold
  6. Click Save

Managing Pastures

Once you've created pastures, you can:

  • Assign herds to pastures
  • Track which animals are in each pasture
  • Move herds between pastures
  • View pasture history and activity
  • Add notes about pasture conditions

Tips for Organizing Pastures

  • Use consistent naming conventions (e.g., "North 1", "North 2")
  • Include key details in the description (water sources, shelter, etc.)
  • Set realistic capacity limits to avoid overcrowding
  • Create separate pastures for quarantine or medical areas
